Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy tale opera "Hansel and Gretel" returns to the Salzburg Landestheater in a poetic staging by Thomas Mika. The opera, based on the eponymous fairy tale by Adelheid Wette, tells the story of siblings Hansel and Gretel, who are sent into the woods by their mother as punishment and encounter the evil candy witch there. Since its premiere in 1893, the work has delighted a broad audience with its grand orchestral sound and the mix of childlike innocence and dramatic tension.
